About this deal

Your shed must be treated within 6 months of purchase and then every 6 to 12 months to activate your 10 year anti rot guarantee and protect your shed from the weather also ensuring it's watertight. but they are smaller frames so you get more brood on a 14 x 12 frame if you are going to make up Nucs from splitting colonies ? Our box not only acts as a single 6 frame nuc, it can also double up as a 2-way mating nuc with the unique divider insert and separate coloured entrances located on each side of the box.

These bees are on 14x12 frames which are suitable for a standard 14x12 brood box or WBC 14x12 brood box. The 14x12 Pent Garden Shed is constructed by our team of expert craftsmen using only the highest quality timber. We work very closing with the NBU (National Bee Unit) and APHA (Animal and Plant Agency) to guarantee you disease free bees that are a pleasure to handle. I inspect the uppermost box for swarming weekly, because they do the queen cells in top most brood box if they do them. and then when the queen is in there and laying and a good percentage of the frames are drawn out and have brood in swap the boxes round so the national brood is on top and stick a queen excluder in between.I'm wondering if life might be easier to switch from double brood to 14x12 because of the reduced work when inspecting and I'm not really completely convinced that my colonies really need the volume of a double brood box. Its a valid point that many extractors won't accept that size (though many will), but there are always ways around these things for the rare times they may be needed. I faced the same dilemma last year and after talking to various members of my local BKA decided on 14 x 12. Each component is one piece moulded so there are no weak joints and very minimal assembly needed before you add your bees.

The cladding on this shed is Pressure Treated (Tanalised) 16mm (planed to to a 12mm finish) specially designed rebated shiplap.I'm wondering if using 14x12 frames might result in more honey in the supers at the end of the summer, but is that offset by the need to feed? The Optional Extra of fully pressure-treated V Lap timber is 16mm finished and being V Lap there is only a small V shape at the top of the cladding. The shed floor comes as standard with 18mm oriented strand board on 38 x 50 runners keeping the floor 2" off the ground.
